Interview Notebooks for Kids

Each New Year’s Eve from the time my kids were very young (i.e., 3 years old), I have interviewed them and written their answers in a dedicated notebook – in fact, each girl has a notebook, where I also wrote letters to them.  Too few, to be honest, but still letters that I thought I would pass to them when they turned 18.

The questions changed over time and included such things as this:

  • Favorite color
  • Favorite song
  • Favorite TV show/movie
  • Crush (when they got older)
  • Friends
  • Hobbies
  • Habits
  • Favorite things they did during that year
  • Things they were looking forward to during the upcoming year

Then at the end of the interview, beginning when they could write, of course, I handed the notebook over to them, and had them write a letter to themselves for next year.  I would ask them to not read their previous one until they had finished the one for this year.
